The successful finalization of our Goodwood infill project, Foundry Street, represents a victory for our adaptive reuse philosophy. This project was not about erasing the past, but about curating the industrial legacy of the site while introducing high-performance modernism.
"Preservation is not just about keeping a wall; it's about honoring the character of the brick itself."
During the development process, we explored the significant material challenges of preserving 100-year-old masonry while meeting contemporary structural and thermal requirements. The result is a series of 12 homes that maintain the raw industrial spirit of the original site, providing a benchmark for sensitive urban densification in South Australia.
A Dialogue of Brick and Steel
The integration of weathering steel elements with the original industrial brickwork creates a visual dialogue between the old and the new. Marcus Sterling's acquisition logic provided the confidence that this site's unique story would be preserved, proving that historic sites can be successfully transformed into modern, efficient living spaces without losing their departmental soul.
